My intent is that they may be useful to get someone started for little or no cost and done simply. Personally, I have developed four sites with no previous experience or training, and am offering that experience at no cost here to get you started. A lot of people wonder if it is possible to build their own websites without having to shell out a lot of money. The simple answer to this question is a big YES, but the process involved in making it happen can seem challenging to some. The truth is if you've been asking the question can I make my own personal website for free,it can help to have a few other issues cleared up before you get started. Let's look at some of the most common questions and answers related to personal website design. Some of the most typical include: Where do I go to find hosting services for free? Someone will need to host and post your website. The best places to turn include regularweb hosting companies and personal web service providers. Hosting companies often offer very basic services for free. These are designed to lure customers in to create free sites with the hopes a conversion to paid service will later occur. A number of big hosting companies do offer free trials. Web service providers are also known for providing free website packages to customers. These websites are generally fairly limited, but they can serve the purpose for many people rather well. Take time to review the options and reviews offered here. What about domain name registration? If you want to know the answer to can Imake my own personal website for free, domain names will also likely come into play. If you choose to use your own internet provider, chances are you'll only get to add on your personal information to the ISPs provided domain name at probable added costs. If you select an actual hosting company, you should be given the opportunity to select and register a domain name. Keep in mind, even if the hosting is free, thedomain registrationmight not be. It all depends on the company offering the service. If you do get to select your own domain name, keep it easy to remember and easy to type. This can help later when traffic starts coming to your site. Can I create my own design? This will depend a great deal on the serviceyou've selected and whether they provide free web site building tools or if you decide to design your own. Some provide an excellent selection of free templates that can be altered through a special program to include personal information, graphics, design, and more. Sometimes both features go along even with a free package. Look at the options offered by the host and don't worry, basic sites are not difficult to create. How can I publish my new site?Once you've designed the site, this question will become your next consideration. Just follow the instructions provided by your host or the site building program. Launching is generally a very basic and easy process. In most cases, services that offer free sites are easy to use, making them even more attractive. Here is some copied info that I got from the internet. Consider - Do I really need to set up my own website? There are lots of reasons for wanting a website: You want more visibility for your business or organization. You want to sell goods or services, or solicit donations. You want to provide round-the-clock answers to questions about a product, a disease, a musical group, a passion, a hobby... You want to free up your service people for the hard questions. You want to sign people up for a service or membership There are reasons for NOT having a website Pause your cursor and press ctrl on the underlined statements below to be led to some considerations. Do you really need a website to communicate with your audience? Just because. everyone seems to have a website these days, that doesn't mean you need one too. If your business is purely local, you might better spend your time joining local clubs or the Chamber of Commerce. You might better spend the money advertising in your local newspapers on occasion. Do you have the time and energy to plan a website, set up the website, and keep it updated? Creating a website takes time. You'll have to gather the pictures you want to use. You'll have to plan the site and you'll have to write the website page copy. Even if you were to hire a professional website designer, those are tasks you won't be able to delegate. HYPERLINK "http://www.havingmyownwebsite.net/alternatives-to-websites.aspx" \t "_blank" There are ways to get online without setting up a website. One of them might even fit your needs better than setting up a website of your own. Below is more direction from the author of this website link. Do It Yourself Website Building YOU CAN Build your own site(s) with little or no cost, and easily HOW Much of the foregoing information is interesting, helpful, and perhaps overwhelming. The whole process can be really simple, as offered below. Download these pages of directions to your computer. You will need fair knowledge of processing skills, as in using Microsoft Word, Office Publisher, or similar program. Assistance from a free site developing programs such as Front Page, Komposer, Amaya, Dreamweaver, BlueVoda, and Page Wizard are available and worth looking at. However, these sometimes awkward programs are really unnecessary. Personally, I prefer to develop a website as simple and straight-forward as seen in my HYPERLINK "http://www.psaes.info" www.psaes.info website. Each of my sites were done using Microsoft Word. If some of the word processing is challenging, you may need to develop further skills from a computer club or class in your community. Computer clubs often have persons who offer direction at little or no cost. Develop your tentative plan for a sight using your processing skills on your computer, possibly mapping out your plans on paper first. As suggested in (1) above, you can do this in Microsoft Word or Office Publisher. These will later be saved in an HTML format. Sometimes your creation will be distorted in saving the HTML version on your computer or later in the uploading process. To prevent this, I suggest using tables in the developing process or the text boxes in Publisher. The tables and text boxes will confine the text contents so they wont move when saved as a webpage HTML. (You cannot upload .doc files for your website homepage. Until you are ready to finalize your proposed site, save the document as .doc. This allows possible revisions at a later date. Your links from the homepage can lead to .doc versions however, allowing your website viewer to download and make changes to fit their needs, as I have done on my sites. Maintain you new web homepage and its possible linking documents in a folder on your computer. If you have hyperlinks to connect your home page text to another page or document, do so at this time. When you highlight the text to be linked, hit your hyperlink button. A window will appear that offers what you want the hyperlinked text to link to. Click on that document and OK to complete the linking process. When ready to test your site in its final version before uploading, copy and paste your .doc version onto another page and save the copy as HTML. The HTML version is necessary for later uploading onto a website. Keep the .doc version for possible revisions at a later date. Select a host who will maintain your site. After a lot of web searching and experimenting, I settled on HYPERLINK "http://www.bluehost.com" bluehost.com . You can click on the URL below the banner at the end of this site to go to their home page. They have all the tools you will need for uploading, including a free FileTransfer Protocol (FTP) that will be used. The FTP allows your uploading without the need to download an FTP program or using a program as in (1) above. Many hosting companies have only a ticket that you can send them. Bluehost has this PLUS their help center in Provo, Utah with personal people you can call 24/7 with very friendly and well-trained staff. When you go to their homepage, you will find a long list of free aides and opportunities, especially when you log into their cPanel. Bluehost is rated as a number one hosting service at Hosting-Review-Center.com as of February 16, 2009. Upload your website using the FTP link on the Bluehost cPanel. There are two side-by-side panes that will open up. (a) The one on the left is from your computer. Double click here on the folder from your Documents (contains your website and possible linked documents). The folders contents will be listed. (b) The panel on the right will contain Bluehost contents of what you will upload to them. Double click on the public_html folder in this right panel. It will open. Highlight the document on the left side that you want to upload to Bluehost. Click on the Upload button at the bottom of the page. Repeat this process for each document you want on your new website. You can also upload by dragging the file from the left panel and dropping on the open public_html on the right panel. If you have links to upload, highlight the document on the left side and drag and drop it onto the name of your website. For the homepage itself, when you upload it to the right pane, it will be named index.html. You can then test your site on the web by typing the address of your domain site into the address bar of your browser. If you dont find the site as you intended it to appear, give the Bluehost help center a toll free call at 1-888-401-4678. They will gladly assist you with any questions you may have, except for the web page design and contents. Become acquainted with the icon links on the cPanel page. There are numerous helpful opportunities to attract visitors to your new website and much more. Marketing tools for your new site can be seen on the Bluehost cPanel. Wanting to market and keep my websites free from cost, I do a lot of reading and develop blogs related to those sites. Using key words in your titles and descriptions makes it easy for potential web searchers to find your website.
